Pest control

A guide to our Pest Policy

Generally, FGCH will assess and take action in response to pest infestations in the home or in a communal area such as corridors, stairwells and common indoor areas. FGCH will not take action, other than to give advice and support to pest control issues outside the home.

There may be exceptions to this principle where there are clear indications that actions need to be taken outside the home in order to directly manage an infestation inside the home or where a number of homes may be affected.

The following are recognised as pests as part of this policy:

  • rats
  • mice
  • cockroaches
  • pharaoh ants (tropical ants)
  • pigeons/birds
  • wasps/hornets
  • squirrels

In cases of pests other than listed above, such as but not limited to fleas, ants, bedbugs, moths, household beetles, plaster beetles, silverfish, caterpillars, or spiders, residents would be responsible. However, FGCH would assess and provide advice. Any corrective action may be recharged to the resident.

FGCH clearly has a responsibility when letting properties that the property is free from pests. Therefore, following a new letting, if it transpires that a pest infestation occurs and that it is likely that it was present before letting then FGCH will take responsibility for corrective action.
