Lockdown – help is available if you need it

We’re doing all we can to support our residents during this very difficult period, including signposting to organisations that can offer practical help and delivering shopping and medication to residents in need.

It’s looking likely that the UK lockdown will be extended, to protect the NHS and save lives. During the past month we have introduced many changes designed to further strengthen the support we provide to residents in need.

Supported Housing Manager Helen Cairns said: “Everyone in the UK has had to adapt in order to meet the Government’s social distancing and/or self-isolation requirements. The health and welfare of our residents and staff are our top priority during the lockdown, so most of us are now working from home.

“By staying indoors, everyone is helping to slow the spread of Coronavirus. However, we know that this can make life particularly difficult for people who are older, vulnerable or have few friends or family to help them. We have been taking action to support people in this target group.”

Here are some examples of how we have been supporting local people during the lockdown, working within Government guidelines at all times:

  • Managers at our sheltered and Flexicare schemes continue to provide daily support to all their residents
  • We have identified around 270 FGCH residents in our target group. We have been calling them to check that all is well and to find out if they need any help
  • We are offering an essential shopping service to FGCH residents who need support
  • We are one of 30+ members of the Letchworth Isolation Group, which is delivering a joined-up response to the Coronavirus crisis. We have provided two staff members for this volunteer army, to deliver shopping and medication to local people in need.

If you have no friends or family to support you and would like someone to talk to or to help you obtain essential items, we have provided a number of useful links on our page called ‘Help and Support across Herts & Beds during Covid-19’. If you have accessed the relevant links and still need support, please contact us on 01462 683307 and we will do our best to help.
